Steam Generator Iron

Hi I've already got a steam generator iron which I paid £60 about 18 months ago (and has now gone faulty)
Some of these irons have jumped up enormously.
I'm looking at the Tefal GU9150 or Philips GC8261 both of which are all singing and the price reflects this (around the £200 mark ).
Has anyone got one of these models or similar. What I want to know is whether the extra price will cut my ironing down any more than a £100 model?
Thanks for any help

Tesco (instore) had a Tefal one down from £140 to £70 that looked quite good.0

Thanks for the help. I know I can get a cheaper iron than the two I've quoted. What I'd like to know if the top range ones will make a difference to the amount to time and effort to my weekly ironing chores against the cheaper ones. Ie is there a considerable difference, performance wise between these £200 models and the cheaper, but still rediculous £100 generator iron.Look after the pennies and the £££s will look after themselves0

Hi
I have my first steam gen for about 18 months too, and when it needed replacing.
My friend bought hers for £219, but i went to ebay and bought one for just £89 and it was the same model ( that was a year ago now) and it's still going strong.
My was one that had been returned to the supplier (tefal) for some reason or another,a nd problem fixed. It also came with 12 months back to base warranty. If i remember rightly the user name was gradedgoods. They have all the customer services numbers to call in the auction listing, and when i spoke to them on the phone first before i made my purchase they were most helpful.
It arrived the next day too
So I was chuffed to bits to save that amount of money, and my friend was gutted she never thought of it !! Even if this machine goes wrong in the next 6 months, I've still ahd a bargain, and will go abck a buy another one from them for sure. As I could never go abck to the standard iron again,a nd thats a promise, thsi machines are brill even for the unloving ironer that most of us are !!

Tchibo periodically do one for £50 with a 3 year warranty. Have had one for >1 year. It is excellent and would recommend to anyone.0

Our Tefal steam generator we have had for at least three years, originally an expensive one. Still going strong, but I have never used a cheap one (they didnt exist when we got ours), I should imagine the main difference is the staying power and build quality.
Weigh up the possibility of replacing a cheap one virtually yearly versus a few years from a discounted more expensive brand. Normally I dont buy branded electrical products, but in this case I think I would IF I could get it heavily discounted. HTH0 -

I think the main feature you need to consider is how much steam it generates, as that is what will help reduce ironing time.
The good ones of the cheaper end tend to get to about 90gsm, but you can get cheaper ones as low as about 30 or 40 gsm. Have a look in the argos or similar catalogue to compare what you can get for what price.
I ignore other features, as they dont help me iron
The only one i think i'd consider as well is the ability to refill without letting the whole system cool. Mine doesnt do that, but, by the time I've done enough ironing to empty the tank,I'm too bored to consider refilling and continuing....and if I only had a few items left, I could always continue, without the steam, using the dry iron itself. *** Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly ***
