Shame on you, you could have got this one for £8, and it's the right size as you only need to boil enough water for one cup at a time.

Talk about inflation, it is £14 now

  • I'm guessing everyone else thought so too, as thats exactly what I intended to convey.

It's just making up a scenario to make the point. What would you have preferred, I interogated he poster for a list of how much they have spent and what they have bought, and what they believe they saved on?

You inventing issues here for you to take offence at by chance?

OK, no I didn't buy a kettle for 3 pounds off. I don't waste my time hunting for kettles, kettles don't excite me or benefit my life at all, but computers and the iPhone 4s got me excited :D By the way Graham, I wasn't the only one queuing for 3 hours to get the latest iPhone 4s when it launched ya know, I was at the back of the queue! More's the pity, it was cold  From what I read on the news there were thousands of people queuing that day and it was worth the wait, Siri did make it an essential purchase plus the 8mb camera!

I could list all my savings over the last 2 months including Black Friday deals (yes, I got all the best stuff as I sat here all week finger poised, mouse good to go!) but you'd probably call me a spendthrift if I did that. You'd be right, at Christmas I am a spendthrift, I love to make people smile with the gifts I buy and also like new treats for myself, but I certainly wouldn't get excited about a kettle! or a 3 pound saving. I saved MUCH more than that! :D

My hubby flat refuses to just boil enough for 2 cups of tea, choose how I remind him about wasted electricity. See? I do try to save resources but the odds are against me married to him :p

  • The problem with any piece of technology these days is it is out of date as soon as you have bought it because new technology is coming out so rapidly.

Graham makes a very good point in that we are now such a consumerist society as we have to have the newest gadget even though for many the older units are just as appropriate. I've never really understood why parents get their kids these state of the art, top of the range iphones etc.

Also as Graham states, how many people pay over the odds for stuff that they will never have any use for? Why do people pay £1000 for a computer that is mainly going to used to surf the web?

I'm a photographer, hi-end Macs are used mainly by the arts industry for obvious reasons. Graphic Designers, Architechs etc. are other users of these thousand pound+ machines ... so are photographers. A lower spec machine would not be as good for some people. I do use all my machines capabilities, as I am sure many others do.

But I agree, a lot buy these machine when they do not make use of their power.

My current TV is 9 years old and going strong.

I think most consumer electric goods are replaced far before they need to be. The exception is kettles, which don't seem to last long.

We will leave the leading edge stuff to the [STRIKE]mugs[/STRIKE] early adopters eh.I tend to replace when they break down, don't know how old my TV is but it is one of those ten ton grey things, it seems to last for ever  the DVD player is also going quite well (£27 from Amazon). I have replaced my 2004 phone though ( now the Xperia Ray) and am very happy, the one advantage of not being a New tech wh0re is when you do upgrade it is a quantum leap :)

I agree! leaving stuff to the early adopters is a good idea :D He wanted a huge Plasma when they came out, I said no, lets see how they pan out before we waste that much on a TV.

His colleague at work bought one, 2 years later he tells him that there is odd things going on at the edge of the screen, a problem with plasmas apparently.

I then bought a LED 2 years after he was nagging for a plasma.

Before I invest in anything big, I let the kinks be ironed out first :T

I have often had the feeling that if a few people look at an item on Amazon the price goes up.

    About time too.

Don't forget that you can cash back for your old mobiles. I reckon you should raise about 15p for that old Nokia.
