This morning we have had a letter from somewhere called The Boss-Forecourt Watch saying my partner had driven off with £10 of fuel and not paid for it in Manchester! We live about 40+ miles from Manchester and we know we have not been there in our car! I do not drive and my partner was at work at the time in his works van. It has our reg number and is authorised by the DVLA, we called them this morning and they have never heard of this company.

We called the number based in Liverpool and it does not work. The company want the suppposed £10 worth of fuel plus an admin fee of £30!

I have looked on the internet for the company and there is no office in Liverpool. My partner is taking it to the police.

Has anyone else come across this before?

  • We have had a call from the company in question to ask what kind of car we have. The description given by the petrol station was a blue 4x4 ours is not that car. They have even checked the database of our car and really should of done this in the first place!

Two reasons were given for the mistake, either the person at the garage read the reg no wrong on the cctv or even more worryingly our number plates have been cloned. Either way they were not much help.

Normally they do send a letter asking for payment in case you forgot.
This may or may not be before they have reported it to the police
If it was a completely different car in the garage, then i would attend your local police station and let them know your plates have been cloned
  • My partner has been to the police station. We thought it was a scam as they asked for a £30 admin fee within 14 days and it would then rise to £60. Plus when i typed in the company it came back it was in Warwickshire not Liverpool!

If they had only checked the database in the first place and matched our car with our numberplate this would not have happened. Our car is beige a big difference from being blue

Nobody checks, they just send the letter.
I've seen a bus lane fine from a local council for a guys car.
It wasn't till he showed me the V5 that clearly stated his car had 5 doors that i saw the car in the photo only had 3.
At the end of the day, they rely on the R/K to tell them if it is wrong
