Sold fake ps3 controller by ASDA!

Hi, i was working away today(I drive around the country, i won't reveal where until i have spoken to them and given a chance to explain themselves) and bought a ps3 controller from an ASDA store.
There were 2 options, a £17ish unofficial controller(madcatz or something) and the 'official' £34.97 controller. I wanted the proper one so i just picked it up as it was in the proper sony box and thought nothing of it.
When i got home i realised it was abit unresponsive and just didn't feel right, although i put it down to being a new controller and perhaps needing 'breaking in'.
Anyway im babbling! About an hour ago it got to me so i tried to figure out the problem and noticed it wasn't infact sony branded anywhere, and the button that usually has the sony logo said 'P3'.
The model number on the back of the controller and the box are different(albeit by the final letter, which google shows as a legitimate 'sony marked' controller which is not the case here).
The store is about 80 miles away otherwise i would go tomorrow and sort it out. I'm going to phone tomorrow and enquire about the controllers and ask a few questions, hopefully the stock they have are the same as mine and there will be no problem getting a refund, otherwise i don't see how i could prove that i haven't just switched the controllers, which even i admit is what it sounds like!
Going to be playing on my mind all night

Just got off of the phone to someone at the store and the ones on the shelf now are all official sony ones :-@
The box was security tagged so the only thing i can think of is that a staff member has changed it and taken a proper one away for themselves. I'm going to go down to a store near me today and explain the situation, i can't see it being resolved there though.0 -
Your receipt will show the Sony controller being scanned and paid for. If they (or the originial ASDA) stock the unofficial one, I'd hope that they'd see your complaint is genuine. Might have been another customer who swapped the PS3 one into cheaper box. Tell them it ain't working too and they'll have to do something I guess.
I'll be bearing this in mind when buying Christmas presents as I normally buy most of my gifts after November pay day and not all shops have an extended returns date.£2 Savers Club 2014 #74 - £4840 -
Hi and thanks for your reply.
The issue isnt that it has been mixed up with another controller that they stock, the issue is that the controller i have got is counterfeit(or atleast seems to be). Somewhere in the journey from manufacturer to me, somebody has swapped it for a cheap version and i am out of pocket because of it.
I'd rather just get an exchange or refund today and draw a line under it, otherwise it is essentially fraud(albeit unintentionally) on asda's part as it is packaged and priced as an official product.0 -

Apologies, I thought you meant that the one you went home with was the £17 one. Hmm, not sure how that might affect their decision.
How was the controller packaged? Is it easily opened and switched or any seals around it? If ASDA have sense they'll give you the proper PS3 one you paid for.
Ok, they have to take your word for it but I guess ASDA don't want to have the embarrassment of selling fake PS3 gear. You also might not be the first customer who's been had, if they are aware of this happening before they can't ignore it.£2 Savers Club 2014 #74 - £4840 -
I took it in and explained that the model number was different to the box etc and i was given an exchange straight away :-) i think it was helped by the fact that i took it to customer services and the lady didnt seem too clued up on it to ask questions.
The original store was in chester ch5, double check if you plan on buying :-)0 -

out of curiosity, how does mentioning which store affect anything when you've already named the company? each store will be supplied by central distribution centers0 -
I just didn't want to give them a bad name before they had a chance to rectify the situation, just seemed the right thing to do0
