Thanks all. So the vaillant eco tec pro 24 would be a suitable choice then?

The suitable rating would be determined by your installer after a full inspection and survey.

Macman is spot on....can't possibly say sight unseen what boiler would be appropriate for your requirements. Is your current boiler a combi?

OK fair enough, I'm awaiting a quote from the guy who condemned it, so I'll see what he suggests. Just wanted to get an idea myself beforehand.
What other factors are involved other than room size, etc above?

Our current boiler is an old stye one with a hot water tank in the bedroom cupboard above and a cold water tank in the loft.

Need to measure mains flow and pressure (water) if you are considering a combi, discuss your expectations in terms of hot water supply etc. More here.

OK, thanks for that. Will installers generally charge for doing quotes?

Generally there is no charge....3 quotes from RGIs recommended to you by a source you trust should give you a good idea about price and specification.... but remember compare each quote like for like....post on here for comment if you like.

Btw...if you're thinking Vaillant go with a ecoTEC plus over the Pro ...one of my OH's favourite installs.

Thanks. Why do your prefer the Plus to the Pro?

The Pro is a cut down version designed for the new build market. The Plus is a superior product eg. better DHW performance with a much longer warranty (5 years vs 3 years for the Pro until 31 December 2011).

I think theres various threads on here indicating the Plus is a better boiler than the Pro (I wasnt given the choice, I went with what my c/heating chap recommended unfortunately). However, my system was fitted in July this year & I purchased a 5 yr warranty at time of purchase through my engineer. And I do have the paperwork from Valliant to confirm the extended warranty. It may be an option for you to consider?
