Switching - Gas & elec rates confusion
Hi all,
I'm looking at switching gas & elec, currently with Atlantic but am confused with the tariffs...I'll explain.
Using Energyhelpline as an example (its the same on uswitch etc), when I choose my current supplier and plan I'm on and it works out which are the cheapest deals for dual fuel, if I look at the "current tariff" info they are ALWAYS alot higher than I'm currently paying??
eg rates on last bill for Domestic stnd nil standing charge
Elec - 13.65p upto 450 units, 11.07p above
Gas - 6.87p upto 1250 kwh, 3p above
compares to tarriff used to compare:
Elec - 17.63p upto 255 units, 12.558p after
Gas - 8.074 upto 625kwh, 3.77p after
Can someone explain please, is it because the tariff I'm on hasn't switched to the new higher tariff & I've not included 5% vat, as it seems if I switch I'll lose money not save!
Thanks
Chris

What was the date of your last bill? Is it before any price increases with your current supplier? Their web site should show you when they hiked it up.
The next oddity I noted is that the first units are charged for 450 units on your current bill and 255 on the new offer. You need to be comparing like for like to see if you could make a saving. This is why there is so many people totally confused now.
I am with BG for both of mine and their website, shows all tariffs in a table for example, so that you can identify yours and find the correct rate you are now on. So I assume your supplier should do same. Start there and then compare.0 -
Thanks for that, I couldn't see the tariffs but found them eventually, just switched to scottishpower using Uswitch & hopefully get the £40 wine AND £80 cashback0
