Hi,
I've seen advice a couple of times stating that any communications such as this should not be signed. I'm just interested as to why you should not do this.
Thanks in advance!

As I am not 100% sure should I send letter asking for proof of debt?
Worried I may acknowledge it and be forced to pay....0 -

The rules on a debt being Statute Barred prevent it from being enforced if for over six years
1. You have made no payment on it and
2. You have not acknowledged in writing that you owe the money.
It was not unknown for dishonest debt collectors, if you gave them your signature, to forge a letter in which you admitted the debt.
Cka, if you are certain that this debt is from 2002 then it is well and truly time barred. Why do you think they are offering you a big discount on it, hoping you don't realise it and crack under the pressure?
The simplest thing is to totally ignore this because if they get no reply they WILL go away. They cannot take you to Court, they cannot send bailiffs, and no-one will call. They are just phishing to see if you are mug enough to pay.
Laugh at them, they are as convincing as the Nigerian e mail scammers. Why waste your time and postage on them?
If you must write, my favourite trick is to address it as "FREEPOST", put no stamp on, and write at the top of the envelope "Open with care, cheque enclosed". The Post Office then makes them pay over £1 to get the letter.
If you openly take the p out of them they will realise they aren't going to con you and look for easier targets.
OH AND WITH YOUR LAST POST Cka- Once a debt has gone statute barred (which yours would have done in 2008) it can NEVER be revived again even if you did acknowledge it- which, if you ignore, you won't.0 -
Thanks to the above!! :T
I ignored And heard no more until today! I have received a letter from advantis credit!
They have been instructed by their client Lowell group to undertake debt recovery action against me for £365.97
Still phishing? Or should I respond with a prove it.?
Thanks in advance u lovely lot!!!!0 -

The alleged debt is statute barred, so there is no point sending a prove it letter just send them a letter recorded from here.
http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/debt_advice.php#6Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -
Received a letter from Westcott today.... still phishing is it the same company under a different name again? Still ignoring..... yawn when will the get bored?0
