Do you rinse out recycleable tins and bottles ?

Options
Everyone I know rinses out tin cans and bottles(jars)...not beer bottles.

How much cash is raised for 1 recycled tin can or jar compared to the cost of the water used to rinse it out
It can't be economically viable to continue rinsing out cans.....can it ?
Are we not wasting more of the earths resources by using the water to rinse out ?

  • I always clean mine out well. In our area, its a fortnight in between collections and if you leave them uncleaned they absolutely ming comes collection day.

p.s. if for any reason you miss the collection and you have to take them to the recycling point yourself, you'll appreciate the trouble that you went to to clean them up.

I just had a thought about flies and wasps round empty jam jars.

I always rinse mine, just use the washing up water when you've finished washing up.

If its a glass jar with a top on it then I don't rinse but tin cans etc would pong if I didnt. They have to live in my kitchen before I take them outside so this is essential to avoid smells. Using the washing up water is a great idea but you cant do right for wrong these days.

They go green very quickly if you don’t rinse them.

    Especially in hot weather. :D

I rinse mine out. It costs me nothing as I'm not on a meter, nor do the water board believe my house exists.

Just giving them a quick wash through after you have washed up does it without using any extra water.
