Vanquis credit limit increase

I would like to increase the credit limit on my Vanquis Card - simply to allow for larger purchases if need be.

My account is almost a year old. I have received only one limit increase (£250 to £500 in month 4).

My statement balances are usually around £200 - which I always pay off in full.

A Vanquis advisor told me to increase my monthly purchases to just below the credit limit (i.e. around £450). This will apparently trigger an increase on their system - as it shows I will benefit from a higher limit.

I could manage this by paying for my Mum's grocery shopping etc - and keeping the cash to pay off the bill... However, I don't want to go through this hassle if the claim is false.

Does anybody know if this is true?

Many thanks :)

    It's absolute rollocks.

I held a Vanquis card for 13 months, limit £250, spent about 75-80% of that each month, repaid in full, never had a limit increase.

Always paid on time and always kept under the limit. All other accounts were kept in check, too. So don't trust what they say.

You achieve the improvement in credit worthiness no matter the limit on the card so I wouldn't stress about it :o

some lenders do this, but apart from an employee confirming not so sure she was correct
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

When did you last hear of a Vanquis helpdesk agent being correct? :rotfl:

But they're based in the UK, so must be better than those based in India. :)

    You'd think so wouldn't you?

I've found Hutchinson 3G's and HSBC's offshore call centres to be more useful, proactive, factual, and helpful than the Chatham Chavs at Vanquis.

  • I have a Vanquis card, was given £750 limit, never ever used it (just have it as emergency back up) and they increased my limit at about 6 months to £1050. Didn't request it.
