Digital TV Switchover message nightmare

My TV region is due to switch off the analogue signal next February. In preparation for this, I'm helpfully harassed by a message about re-tuning every time I switch on the telly or use the EPG, or swap channels. Each time I have to press the yellow button to make it disappear.

It's driving me bonkers. I know how to re-tune my poxy telly. I don't need a message about it popping up every five minutes. Anyone know who's producing it and how to switch it off??

  • Hello,

Try re-scanning your Digital Television box. It might need updating before the switchover to function properly. The messages might go after this.

    Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the suggestion. But unfortunately I've tried this and it made no difference :(. I can't believe I've got to suffer this message until February!

I've got a feeling it might be connected to the BBC red button function... If you press the blue button (for more information) it takes you to some advice about re-tuning which is part of a very generic page about BBC red button facilities. If this is the BBC doing this, then it's not in the least helpful or warranted.

I am also suffering from this message whenever I change channel.
We have tried retuning but still get the message.

I hope someone finds a solution soon.

You think you've got it bad? My TV system (based on MythTV) doesn't ~have~ a yellow button as it's keyboard controlled, so the message sits there for ages before disappearing of its own accord.

Strange thing is that some days it's there and some it's not. I suspect we will have to live with it for a few months. I tried to find out who to complain to when I had another Freeview problem - a sudden signal strength drop in my area - and nobody was interested in the slightest...
  • I had that before analogue switch off before September. It only came on when I had turned my Freeview PVR on from standby. After a while it disappeared or if I visited the page it went immediately. It didn't show again until I turned it on again.

I was getting this all the time for a week about a month ago. Thankfully it stopped but has reappeared as of yesterday.
It really is unwarranted. Perhaps they're trying to annoy us into switching back to the old system to avoid the message.
I tried throwing a brick at the telly and this appears to have resolved the issue, albeit at the expense of losing the picture.
  • Sounds like Freeview trying to push their product rather than losing people to Sky - an illegal advert?? Could try complaining to OFCOM and/or OFT
