Help please!! I have been put onto BGs standard tariff. I did a search and First Utility (not one I'd heard of before) came up with the cheapest deal y a long shot. But I don't know of them. Also, with all the terms, cancellation charges etc, it's so hard to know what's best in real terms. Also, why is it legal for utility companies to tie customers in? What if they put up their rates in that time? Seems v unfair. Can someone help and advise as to what I should do? How I get the real best deal?

1 Don't change supplier until your present agreement is up
2 Then round up one years bills for your gas and add up how much you burnt in that year, the KWH is what you should add.
3 Then go to one of the compare sites entering your KWH.
4 Then select the one you feel is good value
5 You should have duel fuel and pay by direct debit.0 -
Legally binding contract with a power co is 28 days, this is a rolling contract, means you can change when you want as a customer. To discourage this, a lot of tariffs offered have an early termination fee (ETF), if customer leaves power company before X date, the ETF will be added to final bill, but you can never be stopped from making a change of whom you get the bill from, if you do go into a tariff, just be mindful of its length and what the ETF is if you do want to leave early.0

British Gas have been caught lying to the public more times than any other company in the industry, so don't pay too much attention to their claims.
Unless you are on a fixed price agreement, you should be able to change any time you want; read your contract to see change conditions.0 -

Me thinks you have a personal grudge against British Gas0 -
I don't blame him, the amount of threads I've seen on here about pressure selling, and power flushing solves all boiler problems but hey guess what, that's one thing that isn't in your home care plan.
I wouldn't trust them as far as I could Wang them.0
