I have just gone for January sale wrapping paper and bows this year however in the past I have got my DD to paint/print paper that I have then used to wrap gifts and I have used the brown paper and luggage labels approach too, that was one I loved but my family didn't :(

Loving the idea of wrapping things in reusable items :D
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!

Yes! Smithy is a genius... for years i've been a proper bloke, left all the wrapping until Christmas Eve and then gone through 20m of paper and 2 rolls of tape only for everything to come out looking like a Christmas Cracker - now i just use tinfoil (seriously) it's shiny, it's cheap (20m for £1.50) and you don't need tape - wahoo!

    Hi
Been reading with interest about your great ideas for wrapping pressies, but my 2 nephews (aged 12 and 17) and 2 neices (aged 5 and 14) want money instead of a gift this year as they are all saving for more expensive things.
Has anyone got any good ideas on how I can give them the money rather than just in a xmas card?? Preferably a very cheap idea :)
I am making my lovely nieces and nephews sweet trees with each of their favourite sweets and then getting £5 and £10 notes and making origami leaves with them, which I will tape to the trunk with a tiny bit of tape, I thought it might be better than just giving them money in a card, I will let them know that it took me ages shopping for their sweets and making the trees lol!!:rotfl:

I bought a pair of high heeled shoes as a gift and they weren't sold boxed, any ideas pleas on how best to wrap these? I thought of using another shoe box but am open to other ideas. Thanks.

I did this last year. I got two sheets of coloured cellophane (I used two different colours), they were probably around A2 size or maybe a bit bigger, and then a sheet of wrapping paper bigger still. You could get florists celophane which would last ages for all sorts of presents, but we happened to have some gift wrap cellophane in the house.

I laid the paper on the table with the two sheets of celophane on top, put the shoes on and scooped it all up and fastened it so the excess celophane/paper made a !!!!!!-type-thing at the top.

With the shoes, I put them facing opposite directions, and then crossed them over so that the inside edge (between the two feet) was at the outside for the wrapping (that's the straightest edge), and also there wasn't one end of the present taller than the other, which would be a bit of a giveaway!

With the paper&celophane, secure with an elastic band rather than with tape, then put ribbon over it.

    Hi :)

Whenever I give money, I either tape the envelope to a big bar of chocolate, or put the money, in a clear plastic bag, in a pretty jar with whatever sweeties the child likes best :) Will also work with pr1ng[es etc.

That way you get something to wrap and "give", and they get something to open, something to snack on, and they get what they wanted.

A friend of mine gave our children a 99p selection box, unpicked the edge of the box, slid a voucher inside and stuck the box back together with double sided tape...that was a lovely surprise for the children :)

Get a big bit of cardboard box and roll it around them, stuff the gaps at the ends with tissue/wrapping/newspaper and wrap it like a toffee. Bet the reciever will never guess what it is;)

You could roll it up tightly and tuck it neatly in the centre of a roll of polos! We've done this in the past and receivers have often enjoyed the unexpected surprise!
  • I went to ASDA today and bought a pack of 10 small christmas cards reduced to 5p which I will be using as tags! 40 tags for 20p :-)
