  • Ive done all mine in brown paper with red raffia bows. The tags are brown luggage tags and I'll attach mini candy canes.

    Nicole that sounds lovely!

I must admit my presents never look too special but my cousin always add nice little touches, such as a little bauble with our name on instead of a tag, or something like that.

Mine are wrapped in black tissue paper, with lots of ribbon around and a handmade tissue paper poinsettia on top.

A couple of years ago I bought (in the sale, yay) the largest roll of wrapping paper you've ever seen from Ikea. It's still going very, very strong, haha. It's plain black, and to tart it up a bit I sometimes spraypaint doilies, or other shapes (you could use cut outs of Christmas trees or paper snowflakes for example) onto it. Sometimes I use coloured wool or ribbon (charity shop finds ;)) to give it (or any plain brown paper/reused tissue paper) an edge - even string works! If you fancied doing something special for Christmas, lots of places sell little jingle bells that you can tie on with ribbon (I got mine from a supply shop on Etsy - they're tiny but so sweet and effective - plus they were super cheap!).

I also sometimes use scarves (charity shop/car boot sales!) to wrap things up - so it's almost two presents in one!

Have a look about eBay and such for stamps (used with inkpads) or paper punches - so easy to make cute tags with those, or you could even dolly up some plain paper or make a cards with those as well.

PS. Love the idea of attaching mini candy canes, NicoleFury! x

another fan of brown paper :j i think they look lovely. I will usually use brown paper with another wrapping paper. Last year I cut strips from the other paper that I had and wrapped the strips around the parcels like a ribbon. great way to save on paper :p

Not sure what I will do this year as I havent even bought pressies yet :eek:
  • Ooh, great idea, wen-tom! I'm going to have to try that out sometime :D x

I try and use things that can be used again - tea towels, hessian shopping bags, scarves, tshirts - whatever I have picked up in the sales or poundland! Large things can be wrapped in fleece throws from Primark or Asda or even a pretty pillowcase. I just wrap the present in and tie up with florist ribbon for ladies or rustic garden twine for men. Tags I just cut from coloured card shaped like a luggage tag and tie on, sometimes add a little santa sticker for kids
    Good luck!!
