Why do we have posters on here who seem to take glee in bad news?
Now, I listen to the news as everyone else does ... and it does seem bad out there - but, then, I look around at the things I have - the things money cannot buy, and I lift my spirits.
Why do some people want to spread bad news and glum predictions all the time?
This place looks as sad and dismal as the HPC site sometimes - it's a good job I, and some others, are here to lighten the mood somewhat!
Come on - it's not bad here - we are the lucky 10% in the world ... let's rejoice that times are not as bad as some would want us to believe!
Lift your spirits and STOP posting doom and gloom .....

I know what you mean, look at the posts on the Nationwide link with the sad news that young families would have to pay more for a home. Or that whilst they wait rents have gone up.
Bad news always attracts scum bags who take glee MrRee.0 -
Surely this is all subjective.
House prices rise, good news for HPI rampers, bad news for the young.
House prices fall, bad news for HPI rampers, good news for the younng.
Basically there is no universal good/bad news.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017
Quit day job to run 3 businesses 08/02/2017
Started third business 25/06/2016
Son born 13/09/2015
Started a second business 03/08/2013
Officially the owner of my own business since 13/01/20120 -
Bad news IS pretty universal I would suggest?
If house prices are bouyant that means the economy is bouyant ...
If shops are full that means people have money to spend ... which will hopefully make them happier in some way - even if transient.
If the country is doing well, then we benfit from better health treatment and schools.
People are glum when the weight of the world is placed upon their shoulders via websites which rejoice in bad news.
People are happiest when everyone has enough to live and thrive .......
Whether you pay rent or a mortgage that's a free choice, being free to choose surely must be a reason to be cheerful on its own!?Bringing Happiness where there is Gloom!0 -

And it really is this cut and dry, isn't it?
Yeah, pretty much.
I don't like to see anyone cheerleading genuinely bad news like firms going bust, people being laid off, oil prices going up & whatnot, this kind of stuff, directly or indirectly, does hurt us all.
But house price changes don't make us, as a collective, one iota better or worse off [at least not in the long run - of course a 'boom' has the potential to temporarily raise GDP, usually at the expense of an inevitable 'bust' and fall in GDP further down the line]. They're all about making one part of society better off at the expense of another.FACT.0 -
Perhaps some people are sick of all the BULL sh*t that goes on.
Things are bad, many people have less money. Nobody in a position of power is doing anything meaningful about it.
When things are good I'm happy to say they are. However the outlook is in reality rather bleak at the moment.0 -

Is it good news or bad news when a fox kills a rabbit? It depends on whether you are the fox or the rabbit.
Your preference is to have tenants working 18 hours a day in Starbucks to cover your rent charges. If the market changes such that the tenant can buy the property at a 70% discount, that is only bad news for you.
A serious correction is the market's way of telling vested interests that they are getting it wrong and they are not listening. It is very painful but a lot of good can come out of it.0
