Wet or Dry Cat Food

I am pleased that you have found a food that pleases you and your cat.
You should be aware, however, that Whiskas is cheap for a reason. The first two listed ingredients are: Cereals and vegetable protein extracts. A meat based ingredient is not listed until number 3.
Being as cats are naturally almost completely carnivore, it is something that you may wish to bear in mind if you are considering feeding this long term.
It is acknowledged by feline nutritional experts that cereals are not great in a cat's diet. It is not always easy to avoid them - e.g.my cats prefer Royal Canin dry which has cereal content and refuse to eat a higher meat content, cereal-free dry food - but at least the first ingredient listed on RC is generally something like Poultry meal.
As with most things in life, you get what you pay for

Moggy, glad you've found something for now but do agree with what Friday has said above (from another slave whose cats will only eat RC dry ....).
Try to preservere with the wet - even if it's just a little.
It can make giving medication much easier if needed as you can often mix it in with the wet. HTHGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
£1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000

All these poor !!!!! cats eating horrible cooked to within an inch of its life food, loaded with additives and preservatives and cereals which we are brainwashed into believing are good for them

Check out the % of meat on the packaging .. its an eye opener at just how little meat is in this junk!
Have you thought about going RAW/ BARF? My two are on a 90% raw diet (I'm no saint, i do turn to commercial cat food on occasion i confess
) and its the best thing i ever did for them. :T Ant. :cool:0 -
Blimey i will have a look but i did compare it to some of the others on offer and it didnt seem that much different. I have tried her on chicken as in real cooked chicken and she doesnt seem to go for that which for me is extremely unusual! will have to investigate this further thank you all for your advice! I'm off to start reading some labels! thanks again

You will find in the end that the cat has the final say on the matter. As was the case with the ships cat ' Admiral "Burbly" Burwasher' .0

Hi Moggy! It probably doesn't seem that much different to other foods sold in supermarkets, but the best quality food is to be found either on line ( on a site such as Zooplus) or at specialist pet stores such as Pets at Home, although both places sell the supermarket junk as well, so you do need to do some research

Butchers Choice & Feline Fayre are sold in supermarkets - this wet food is ok. Also you can feed human grade tinned fish. The better dried food is mostly available (cheaply) online or at PAH or vets (which is the most expensive source of pet food).0

i checked the whiskas and on this particular one meat is listed as second on the ingredients list so maybe they have improved it. Will keep checking though and wet food pouches are going down a treat so will combine both i think for best results
thanks for all your help here. Moggy 0 -
pouches are much more expensive than tins however.
Hoping it all goes well for kitty0
