i did the survey
although my habits have changed now 4 years ago (the first time i tried uni) i had to drop out, i had a networked computer with internet installed in my halls of resisdence over the xmas period. I ended up having the computer on 24hours a day my sleeping patterns reversed I had MSN messenger on ALL THE TIME if it beeped when i was asleep i'd wake up and chat to them for hours. My uni work went down the plan i missed lectures just to surf the net i was late for everything and only ate junk
I had to drop out of uni
Looking back i was definitely addicted to the net, beofre that i used to be so good with time keeping etc:kisses2: Got married September 2011:smileyhea

thanks for doing the survey martine.
what you wrote is interesting. There's a lot of controversy amongst researchers as to wether or not you can be addicited to the internet itself or just to activities which have offline equivalents but which you choose to access via the internet.
either way, the negative consequences are very real, as you explained in your post. If anyone else is having issues with excessive internet use, get in touch with your university counselling service. It's a common experience these days and counsellors/therapists will be able to help.0 -
Hi aa2pls - procrastination is my middle name and the internet is just another excuse for not doing what I should be! Along with urgent dusting and tidying of drawers!
Having said that, I work away from home sometimes and cannot get online at every location I work at and I do tend to get terribly twitchy then! I feel as though I'm going cold turkey! So maybe I am addicted!
I have to say that my bad habits have improved enormously since starting my degree - I've had to be a whole lot more organised and the university I'm at is really good at helping with this.
I'm spending more time than usual online at the moment as we're on our inter-semester break - I'm just about disciplined enough to avoid too much time mooching around online when I have deadlines to hit!

thankfully i'm much better now
and i'm back at uni even if its just part time.
Back then it was more addictive than cigarettes I couldn't even be bothered to go outside to have one ( i lived in non smoking halls of residence) so i prettymuch quit.
One time i even sat on the comp with my hand hanging out the window with the cig so i wouldn't set the smoke alarm off (i didn't work and i got bollocked!)
I filled in the survey with regard to my current situation but if you like me to do one from the perspective of back then please let me know.:kisses2: Got married September 2011:smileyhea

hi martine. There's no need to do another survey, the current one is fine thanks. I'm glad things are better for you now!0
