Enhanced Redundancy

My Husband has been told that he and his colleague are under threat of redundancy and that one of them has to go. His colleague has offered to take voluntary redundancy and the firm are saying they are not accepting volunteers as we have to go through the process. They have now told my Husband that the reason they are not accepting his colleagues voluntary redundancy is because they don't want to pay enhanced money. Is this correct? Do they have to enhance the package if someone volunteers?

No they don't, unless there is something in their contracts or a collective agreement in place for example which requires them to do so.
