jobseekers issue

back in 2010 i was claiming jobseekers. it got stopped due to a fault at there office. i challenged the freeze on payments as i did not believe i did anything wrong and believed there office was at fault. They agreed to basically end the stopped payments and start paying my jobseekers again. I have recently found out from a man who works in this area that they would only have started my payments again if they knew that i was right and there office was wrong.

the problem is why i was losing payments i ended up getting into 4k of debt with family to survive. is it possible to claim the unpaid jobseekers back if they were at fault?

  • If proved that the office is wrong. It should be backdated

Wow, how long were payments frozen for? Do you have any evidence of wrong doing by the Job centre other than what 'a man' said?

they looked into it, checked systems, spoke to staff etc, a lady at the jobcentre said the systems seemed to show i was correct and not in the wrong but has it had been frozen it was down to the board that freezes the money. when they wrote back it showed they was willing to end the freeze the next day. According to someone who works in the jobcentre they only do this if they are in the wrong, if they had been correct then they would've still kept the freeze on. How would i get it backdated now if i can?

Not sure they will backdate, but it won't hurt to write a letter the JCP asking them to backdate. Give as much info as possible (I'd leave out the bit about borrowing £4 as that is frankly ridiculous) and see what they say. Send the letter recorded delivery. Finally, for the third time of asking....how long were your payments frozen for?
  • Maybe you should have just paid back your family out of the wages you got from your job?!!

    1. There's no such thing as a "board" that freezes money; in fact there's no such thing as "freezing" money either.

It sounds like "the man" who "works in the area" doesn't really know what he's talking about.

    2. Awards for JSA can be suspended for various reasons, e.g failing to actively seek work ; leaving work voluntarily etc.

If this were to happen, the suspension would be for a fixed period, after which payments would resume.

Hence "the man" who says that if payments are stopped, but later re-started; this shows they should never have have been stopped, is completely incorrect.

Payments would be re-started once the period of suspension has been completed.

I presume you could say why the payments were stopped?
And you could say how long the payments were stopped for?
And perhaps give a little background information on what was going on?
