Credit card fees

I have an annual maintenance fee to pay. I have had the invoice and with it is the detail on how to pay. They only seem to offer credit or debit card payment options and they insist that if you use a card they will load a further 2.5% if you use a card.
Do we have to use a card or do they have to offer a non fee paying option. I.e. Cheque or direct transfer bank payment
This seems to be a cynical method to just charge hidden increased charges........ Profiteering!
Any advice gratefully received. Thanks
