The recent price increases announced by bt have obviously focused people on how much they are paying for their line rental, however
are you really paying what you think your paying?
In june i was about to leave bt for o2 and their £9.50 free evening and weekend calls package. Bt retentions offered me a "loyalty discount" on the line rental that brought it down to £9.65..
fantastic. i signed up for 12 months
given the hassle of moving supplier i thought that was a good deal
except
I have just received my bill and given the price rises dont come into effect until tomorrow was surprised to see that i am ACTUALLY paying £10.90..
bt customer services could offer no explanation and no further discounts.
Given that i was sold this package on the price of £9.65 i feel mislead and have lodged a complaint. I am still waiting for someone to phone me but wondered if i could write directly to ofcom to lodge a complaint. ..

That looks like your missing the paper free discount of £1.25 which has been withdrawn as of dec 3rd0
-
You would thinks so wouldnt you. but looking at my bill that discount is there. Now given that when i discussed this with retentions they made the offer on line rental and free evening and weekend calls. no mention of paper free billing discount or anything else...
This is a seperate discount and shouldnt affect the package i signed up for0 -
The problem for the consumer is that whilst these deals are confirmed by phone, the details are not put in writing.
I have just agreed a new 12 month contract with BT for BB Option 1 and inclusive evening and weekend calls at £8 per month (from £17 or £17.90 at the increased rate). Despite having received 2 x Order Activation emails for the phone and broadband, the agreed price has not been stated anywhere.
I honestly don't trust them as far as I can throw them. In the light of your post, OP, might just give them a ring tomorrow and see if I can get emailed confirmation of the agreed amount.0 -
I would.. and i urge everyone to check to see what they are really paying0

There is where necessary, a £3 discount available on UEWP (when being charged £13.90) and on the UAP when being charged £18.60. Making them £10.90 and £15.60 respectively.
These discounts are not available when taking Line Rental Saver. And for the same reason, paper free discount is not compatible either, it should have been explained.0 -
Like i said in a previous post .. I HAVE the paper free discount on my bill.. it is there, i can see it and so has nothing to do with whatever discount they offered me.
the discount has now ended so from now on i will be paying £10.90 + £1.25..
Still no reponse from bt .. not surprising really. ill try one more time. write and then apparently i have to wait for 8 weeks before i can escalate it further to ADR0 -

You have the wrong end of the stick, let me explain.
With BT, before the 3rd, you achieved a paper free discount on most services.
you were not entitled to this service if you had LRS (discounted line rental with mandatory paper free billing), or if you had the maximum discounted monthly rental. So, if you have UEWP for £10.90 or UAP for £15.60, the paper free discount would automatically be removed.
You will NOT be paying £10.90 + £1.25 from here on in. There is NO CHARGE for paper billing, there was just an incentive for having paper free in the past, that no longer applies.
Your bill from here on in will be £10.90 per month, plus any call charges, or things like a payment processing fee.0 -
Ady. yes i see now what your saying. The discount on paper free billing shouldnt have applied given i had been given another discount. and yes i see that i wont be charged an extra £1.25 but i will be £1.25 a month worse off. .same thing really
2 questions
1. the woman i talked to NEVER explained to me that she was giving me the paper free discount to make it effectively £9.65 a month. is this mis-selling??
2, given i agreed to another 12 month contract on the basis of this discount, should the contract now be null and void? or like the utility industry shouldnt i be able to reject the new terms and walk away without penalty.?
Im not happy at all and written to bt asking for transcripts of the conversation i had with retentions.
Whats funny is ive been with bt for eons and was considering having my broadband with them. i now cant wait to leave and wouldnt recommend them to anyone.0 -
Just an update on the bt fiasco. I have finally managed after a little persistence to get a refund of £15, which works out as the cost of the paper free discount over the year. customer service agreed that the retentions team failed to give me the full picture and apologised.
They also offered if i wanted, to end the contract with no penalty
result...0 -
The retentions team would give you a retention discount on broadband if you said you would take your line away, just an idea.
Persistence paid off by the way i see, well done.0
