DSR and sealed goods

Hi all
Does the DSR allow you to open a sealed box to inspect a product and still be entitled to return it for a full refund? It's an electronic item in question (not computer software or something that I know would be void if opened).
Many thanks
Michael.

Yes it does.
I'm just wondering how and why sites such as Play state that unwanted goods must be returned unopened.
Also, is anyone able to figure out the Play.com returns process? The Return Policy page states to click on 'View Order History' to arrange a return but there's no such link on the page!

play.com seem to offer a 30 day returns policy. The statutory cancellation period is 7 (working) days, after this it's down to company policy, for which they CAN insist on original packaging.0

It's the original packaging, I've simply broken a seal that otherwise prevented the box from being opened!0 -

Yes, its UK legislation, I believe. Although I think the Jersey legislation is similar, someone posted it around here the other day.0 -

Googling it, it appears the Jersey law is almost identical the UK law
