extra hire car charges HolidayAutos/Hertz

Hello,

1st time post, so please be gentle. Booked car hire in advanced with holidayAutos arrived at fuerteventura Airport, when the hire company Hertz hit you with a Theft protection policy; which for 1 week was about 56 euros. I'd paid up front with HolidayAutos for all excesses. So not impressed with this. This happened on the 4th Nov, so raised this with Holidayautos on our return; 21 Day response time. Oh and watch out for the 10p/min call cost to their customer services.

so just a warning to watch out for the TP extra, and if anyone else has been through this I'd like to hear the outcome.

Rest of the holiday was great, fuel and wine so much cheaper than the uk.

Ta

I hired a car with Holiday Autos and picked up from Europcar in Glasgow - no extra charges (even the £13/day young driver surcharge I was expecting was forgotten about) and had the Europcar rep walk around the car with me on return resulting in an invoice for £0.00.

But if you chose to pay the extra charges why should you have a complaint?
  • cubegame - I'd paid up front for what I'd thought were all the charges with holidayautos; the hertz excess for Theft Protection should have been decleared at the point of sale with holidayautos. Also the pick-up at Hertz the TP charge was mandatory; a few people in front of us complained that the Hertz desk were adding the TP protection, they were staying local so cancelled and jumped in a taxi. We didn't have the option as we were staying 80km away.

Still waiting for a reply from HolidayAutos.

You should have asked Hertz to provide a signed letter saying they wouldn't let you take the car without paying the additional charge.
  • Good news HolidayAutos have agreed to a refund. So thanks to them. As for Hertz beware of their front desk charges at the airport.

I've completely given up hiring cars abroad; a complete rip off and always extra charges and things that aren't covered even then which I just spend the whole holiday worrying about. Now I just get the bus/train or taxi or simply don't go if I can't do that and I'm far happier :)
