How long should bulbs last?

I have not noticed a significant difference in lifespan between brands of bulbs, only that the higher-spec ones tend to last around half the time the standard ones do.

So, if the factory-fit bulbs in a car are rubbish, I use the Nightbreakers. For most cars I've owned, I have a quantity of the very cheapest bulbs I bought a long time ago. They generally last about a year or 18 months.

Not sure I'd trust a Lucas employee for expert opinion on the design of things or understanding why they fail. :D

Did he also tell you that most electrics fail because someone let the magic smoke out of the harness?

Whilst he does come out with some carp sometimes I do tend to accept his reasoning on on this one. I think anything thin attached to a halogen lamp is likley to burn off pretty quickly leaving traces of carbon behind, my finger tips included.

"He" designed one of the recent Aston Martin series headlamps too, amongst other things, apparently.
