    It's a mixed bag really

I'm with Aviva who in the Insurance world have an 'awful reputation' yet everytime I've called them they've been very friendly, polite and helpful! Policy was several hundred pounds less than elsewhere (and good cashback offers) and the policy features/benefits are very comprehensive (Work in the Industry so know not to take everything on face value). Have had a good read through their policy booklet and was happy to stay.

Like said above, most people come online to moan.

I work for NFU Mutual and I know that they do look after their customers in the event of... anything really! In the 12 months I've been in the department I haven't seen a single complaint as the Customer Service teams do a heck of a lot for customers. The customer service teams aren't very big so you often deal with the same person from the start of your policy until the end and you always get given the persons name and extension on every call.

My dad is with LV and they have always been very good although slow with some queries.

The only problem with NFU is their liability section is the worst of any Insurer and I've dealt with many many.
