Another Ipod Dumb@ss!

Options
Hey folks!

I in my wisdom formatted my Ipod. Now having loaded some songs on it I can't load anymore or play them through Itunes. They are there in my Library but won't let me drag them onto my Ipod!

Am I a numpty? :D

  • Does the iPod show up on iTunes? If you can see the songs or not.

Yeah I can see the Ipod and the songs. It's just everything is greyed out so I can't click any songs or change the 'name, date, etc' menus!
  • This happened to me. You have two options
    1. On the lastest verison of iTunes you have the to restore the iPod to the same state that you got it.
    2. Uninstall the iTunes and restart then reinstall it.
  • Oooh I think I've fixed it!

I turned on the manually manage music option! :j

But why wouldn't it work automatically and why couldn't I select the songs on the actual Ipod when doing it non manually!

Songs are greyed out when managed by iTunes so you can't select or deselect them......you drag the songs to a playlist and sync that

Manually managed means you can delete or manually put songs onto the iPod

  • It stupid that it does it but the new itunes selects an automatic song upgrade by default.

If you click on your ipod unselect all the management boxes. Your ipod is now manual for changing songs.

I work in an electrical shop and people come back all the time saying their ipod doesn't work.

so much for itunes great 'ease of use' eh!

Personally if you have the space on your ipod just leave it so that it is automatic. Then you can just think of it as a single library. It will also automatically transfer album art and your playlists. All your song play counts are always up to date whether you play them from the PC or from the Ipod. This is great if you set up some smart playlists based on most often played.

I always used to be a manual man, but since I got a new 80gb Ipod I have spent hours sorting out all my tags and album art and now have a single library managed by itunes and fully sync'd to the ipod !!

PS. If you still want it fully sync'd so that song counts, art etc are there but don't want all your songs on, tick the option to only sync checked songs, then remove the tick on all songs you don't want on the ipod and they will not appear on the ipod !!

    Happy Days
