Hi I have been claiming ESA for the past 13 months and recently found a new job (starting Monday) but the problem I have is my next full pay date is not until the 11th January, will they stop the ESA immediately if I contact the benefits office?
I cant be going with no money for 6 weeks especially over the Christmas period
Thank you for any advice

You can't claim ESA while working in other than permitted or negligible work.
(well, you can, but not legally).
I wonder if return to work credit may be applicable.

Thanks for the advice Rogerblack, but was wondering if you get a 4 week grace like JSA, housing benefit etc.? and thanks for the link I'll have a look through that now0

I don't think you get a run-on for ESA but as Rogerblack said, because you've been claiming ESA for over 26 weeks, providing your new job is for 16 hours or more and expected to last at least 6 weeks you should receive the Return to Work credit and the Job Grant.
