Free VOIP calls between blackberry and Android?

I'd like to know if there is a free app that works on both Blackberry and Android that enables true VOIP calls between the two over WIFI.

Tried Google Talk only to find that doesn't work properly outside the US, and truphone only to find that doesn't support wifi calling on the blackberry. Rather irritating because neither made it obvious on their websites.

I understand there's a difference between true VoIP and something that is just a PTT app? I mean, I've used Fring before (android to android) and that was a bit rubbish in terms of call quality, as a result of it not being proper SIP VoIP or whatever.

I didn't manage to find one that I didn't have to pay for (i.e. Truphone). But have a look here: http://voip.about.com/od/mobilevoip/a/BlackBerryVoIP.htm

Android and iPhone are both inundated with VoIP clients and also Skype.

Thanks - none of those seem to offer proper voip for the berry though. :( Only callback mechanism type things. Yeah I know, unfortunately my gf has not yet discovered the wonders of android. :p

Alternatively, is there any app I can use on android to make free or very cheap calls to landlines? I'd rather not top up £10 a time for a Finarea based app.
  • There is an application called viber which allows you to place VoIP calls to other viber users across platforms. Maybe give that a try?

Unfortunately not yet available for Blackberry, though is apparently in the pipeline so that might solve it soon...
