Thanks for the lovely comments everyone! I was quite nervous about putting photos on the board, especially as everyone else's are so nice!

Hadley, your apples and pears theme sounds amazing, so much you can do with that....I'm already thinking! Don't seem to be able to get fully out of the Wedding Zone :-)

Miss Bolan, earthy-recycled-booky-natural-handmade is pretty exactly what we went for! Our invitations (admittedly they were needlessly elaborate) were rustic-style pocketfolds, with luggage tags, jute ribbon, a typewriter font, natural twine, a hand-drawn map, and the RSVP cards were postcards from Penguin, which are all different book covers. We tried to match up the titles with our guests for a bit of fun; our friend from Holland got "The Flying Dutchman" and my OH's elderly aunt got "The Case of the Dangerous Dowager"!

I think I've got some photos at home, will have a look. The best thing I bought during the whole wedding planning was a stamp kit; it allowed us to personalise all of the stationery and "5.11.11" became a bit of a theme throughout.

Our wedding was in the North West; if anyone wants to know who we used for what please ask. I can't recommned all our suppliers highly enough!

    Hi Zimm.

Good to hear from you. You have become quite a star on this forum. :rotfl:

I love the sound of your invites (and the RSVP cards... love the one to the elderly aunt :rotfl:).. Would love to see some photos... pretty please with a very large cherry.

I want your shawl... did you do it from a pattern???

Oh, by the way feel free to give any ideas for apples and pears theme. I'm perhaps doing it in teh wrong season i.e. summer instead of autumn. But its because the venue (stately home) is famous for its fruit orchards and also because I'm a pear and OH is definately an apple.:rotfl:Hope that doesn't sound silly????:o Not that I'm publicising our body shapes, but close friend get the joke.

Maybe you should take up wedding planning - :)

    Hi Hadley,

I definitely thought summer when I heard apples and pears - possibly because I was thinking of cider and bright-green Granny Smiths! It ties in perfectly with your venue's fruit orchards and even better if you and your OH are like apples and pears!

I knitted the shawl using this pattern, found on Ravelry. I hadn't knitted anything like this before so it took a few goes to get going but once I was into it it was ok. It's made with Manos del Uruguay yarn, which is 75% baby alpaca, 20% silk, and 5% cashmere so even though the shawl is light it's actually very warm (good old alpacas!).

I don't think I could hack it as a wedding planner - once was enough for me!

    Hi Zimm,

Oh thanks so much for the details of the shawl... It looks amazing on you.

Am so pleased you thought - summer when you heard apples and pears.:rotfl: I have gone for apple (light green) bridesmaid dresses, am looking at giving the men cider kits for favours whilst the woman are going to have pears soap (not the one advertised by teh little girl - if you can remember that) but pear shaped soaps. The cake is going to be teh apple crate cake from Tartufli cakes (with some pears thrown in) and am hoping to get some granny smiths and some pears for the place cards. oh almost forgot am going to get some apples in the bouquet, but not too sure if we can manage the pears :(

Hopefully I don't sound too mad :rotfl:

Thanks again for your help :A- your wedding really did look stunning.

Ohhhhhhh, where abouts in the North West? We're just looking for a venue at the moment, in Cheshire/Manchester.

Your pictures are really stunning, looks like a brilliant day.

Hadley - Sainsburys have golden ones on sale at the moment, maybe you should consider fake ones for your bouquet?

Also, just a thought, why not look up all the different names of Apples and Pears and see if you can link them to your guests as Zim did with her replies?

I don't normally check out lots of the threads on MSE but I came across your post and felt that I had to leave a message.
Your Wedding day just looked totally perfect - I absolutely love all of the special touches that you did with the Theme itself but the knitted flower for your bouquet and the Bride and Groom is just inspiring.
May you have many, many happy years with only love and care of each other.
    Xx
