Today in the news King's announcement regarding the state of the Eurozone and the consequences for us all was very disconcerting. What to do with my savings? Is it worth thinking about closing my accounts in case problems arise with the banks?

Sure, why not.
Also recommend donning an aluminium hat in case of alien death rays.
And stock up on baked beans.
Oh, and don't forget to buy a pitch fork...
(But really, if the banks collapse and the FSCS is unable to pay out, you'll have bigger problems than under which matress to stash your cash)I am an IFA, but nothing I say on this forum constitutes financial advice. Always draw your own conclusions and always do your own research.0 -
Maybe there are just given high profile but the doom merchants seem to control the airwaves and talk down any good news. Not only that they seem to almost trigger panic by focusing on the negative.I know they are only giving their opinion. None worse then Robert Peston who was asked to comment on the market resurgence yesterday. He made me feel suicidal re our future prospects.Probably a gross over statement on my part but Peston seems to revel it in..Angry_Astronomer wrote: »Today in the news King's announcement regarding the state of the Eurozone and the consequences for us all was very disconcerting. I have always found a lead lined hat is more effective! However the way things are progressing in Europe it seems anything can happen0

These threads are getting !!!!ing boring now.
Every day are my savings safe should I close my accounts blah blah blah.
If you think the banking system will collapse, yes close your accounts, apply immediately for a firearms license and buy out Lidls stocks of baked beans.
If you don't, then keep under the 85k limit and get on with your life.0 -

A load of baubles.
By which I mean we need some new sparkly ones for the tree this year
Living for tomorrow might mean that you survive the day after.
It is always different this time. The only thing that is the same is the outcome.
Portfolios are like personalities - one that is balanced is usually preferable.

British cash notes are tied to the stability of a bank also. You could try holding a variety instead of just one countrys currency especially if you travel or have relatives abroad.0
