Warning!! Lloyds no longer take fast payments

hello
was about to pay off my amex/mastercard lloyds credit card online today (it's due in 5 days) and was shocked to see a notification that they no longer accept faster payments! thus if i was to go ahead with online payment it would go via bacs and take at least 4 working days... meaning i'd be late with payment! rang the helpline who claimed this was not a new thing, but it absolutely is as i've never had that warning before and always arranged online payments within a day or two before it was actually due. thought i should post here in case anyone else has this card and you get caught out. i now have to go to my bank and pay via cash today to be sure payment is on in time. grrrrrr

Can you pay via the card's website in real time?

Is this all payments, or just payments over a certain amount? sure I read somewhere that some banks put limits on how many transactions and how much per transaction that they will accept for FP.

They never accepted faster payments from a LTSB c/a, despite saying this message the payment you made will appear on your available balance tomorrow afternoon and added to your statement tommorrow evening after 11:30

Mine appeared on my statement the next working day when I paid a couple of days ago (I was paying from an LTSB account though). Probably a good idea not to risk and try it out next month with some extra days to spare.

They may state that they do not accept faster payments but I paid my bill online on Tuesday and it shows as paid yesterday so you should be ok.

i'm not alone - when i went to bank and paid by debit card two of the bank staff had had the same issue and they knew nothing about it or the change either! i didn;t dare take the chance of a 4day bacs payment as interest if late was horrendous - you may be lucky and find it instantly goes out yr account, but i could';t take chance it might not! btw this was attempting to pay a lloyds credit card from a lloyds account... (when i paid another bill from another bank's credit card online - i did not have the warning abt bacs payment onscreen ..) so as previous poster said earlier it may be best to err this side of caution and pay earlier to allow 4days..

It is a change, or is it a temporary fault of some sort?

I do think we're getting a bit overexcited here.

Anybody leaving a credit card bill payment to the last minute needs their head testing anyway.

how about setting up a direct debit? the money is taken out on the exact day that the cc payment is due.

Faster payments are only applicable between accounts (in this case from your current account to the provider's account, which is distinct from your credit card.)

It provides no guarantees (and never did) to how long a credit card provider takes to move the money to your credit card having received it.
