Bathroom fittings

Hello!

I'm updating my bathroom but I'm having some trouble choosing where to buy the fittings from. A lot of products look amazing in the argos catalogues but are really flimsy and odd shaped when u see them in stores. Can anyone recommend any good brands/places where the prices are reasonable and the quality of goods are high!

I've had a search online and found a store called Hudson Reed - has anyone purchased items from there?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

  • Hudson Reed are good quality. Independent retailers or Ebay may well be cheaper than their own store.

Bristan also do good quality fittings and have an outlet on Ebay selling dicontinued lines. I purchased a heated towel shelf (over £300.00) for £60 and a floor mounted basin tap (over £450 trade) for £65.00. There are quality items to be had if you shop around are not in a desparate rush.
  • Thanks DirectDebacle! What awesome prices!! I'll defintely check out eBay :)

I have been in the industry for years and am still gobsmacked by the retail prices for bathroom accessories. I have found that the best makes if you can afford them are either Keuco or Samuel Heath - some times you can pick up a bargain.....ebay
However I have fitted a few bathrooms where the client has bought their accessories from bathstore and have been surprisingly impressed by the quality!
  • I can vouch for Hudson Reed as being a good brand although there are some slightly better prices on the aquabliss products.

I'm a self employed plumber so as you can imagine i've fitted numourous brands.
In terms of quality Aqualisa are the best on the market although you can end paying a small fortune. I'd avoid Mira and Triton as they restrict the water pressure due to the european design.
As another alternative to the Hudson Reed there are some great products from Pura and TC.

Have a quick look on ebay obviously as there are some great bargains to be had but i would recommend aquabliss.co.uk as they have a big sale on at the minute and i've saved a fortune with a purchase i made from them recently.

The major problem on ebay i've found is there's alot of rubbish that barely lasts 10 seconds so look to see what the guarantee is on the product. Last thing you want to do is replace it after a year.

I have been buying my new bathroom over the last 6 months due to not having a very big income and I don't want to get into any debt over it. I bought my taps and shower from bathrooms 365 on line, excellent service and very good delivery service they even give you a 1 hour delivery slot which is changeable but also means you don't have to stay in all day stuff arrived dead on time. Got the sink and Loo from bathroom heaven, lucky to have one near me, its from the pura bathroom range. My next door neighbour got her shower cubicle and surround from plumbworld she was very pleased with the service and is also happy with the quality of the products. They are only on line.

When I originally made the decision to do the bathroom I was going to gett b&q value stuff, after talking to my plumber and looking at threads on here I soon changed my mind as I want to live here some time yet. Seems you get pretty much what you pay for plumber wasn't too happy fitting the cheap stuff, apart from it not lasting as long as the better brands he said if anything breaks especially with the Loo you can't get parts to fix it.

For example cheap taps feel scratchy and clicky where as the quality branded ones I have gone for are a pleasure to operate and just look so much betterand the better quality Loo has a soft close seat. Ok it has cost a bit more but waiting a bit longer has been worth it!
  • Thanks for all your suggestions everyone!

I think I'll have a look online and see what bargins I can find!! :)
