There is a recipe on here that I have yet to try that looks straight forward. Posted originally by Seraphina. You can leave out the mint if desired.

"I make pea and mint soup and rarely measure anything - I just chuck in a small packet of frozen petits pois and about a litre of stock into a large pan, after frying off some finely chopped onion. I then add mint just before I blend it - how much you want to add is up to you!"Boots Card - £17.53, Nectar Points - £15.06 - *Saving for Chrimbo*2015 Savings Fund - £2575.000 -
I remember the pea soup - Batchelors Thick Pea Soup, I think it was. I use to love it and have often wished it was still available! It was a packet mix that you were supposed to make with 1 pint of water, but I always used a bit less. The instructions said to simmer it for 20 minutes but cooking it for a bit less meant that the dried peas in it were still a bit crunchy. I can still taste it ....0

Here's a discussion about this type of soup on Delia's board. It may help

I used to love that soup and had forgotten all about it until I read this thread. I seem to remember my Dad used to make it once in a while from scratch and he always used those dried green peas in the box with the white soaking tablet. He used to fry a finely chopped or grated onion and then throw in the peas and some water and simmer it until the peas were soft. Don't let the mixture boil too fast or the shells will all come off the peas and don't add salt or stock until they are soft or they will remain like bullets. When peas are soft stir in some salt and pepper and a knob of butter - yum!Jane

I am making pea soup with bacon using frozen peas. Has anyone any suggestions for a herb or flavouring other than mint? Dried mint doesn't taste the same and despite looking up lots of recipes they all seem to want mint except one which suggested basil. Any ideas?0

I don't use any except celery salt.
I slow fry an onion and add the celery salt to that; then add a box of soaked quick soak peas; and a load of stock and seasonings; and then whizz down. that's it. I use real celery if I have any and fry off with the onions.
The onion, bacon and peas should give enough flavour for the soup - but I find celery really adds depth.0 -
When I make pea soup I put in peas, bouillon powder, onion, garlic, parsley, a pinch of chili powder (not too much! just enough to give it an edge!) and some lemon juiceAugust grocery challenge: £50

I'd say basil as well - but I'd put it in everything if I could!" The greatest wealth is to live content with little."
