argggh with parcels and buyers

I sold a large expensive, light but awkward item to a newbie buyer. He didn't want to use paypal because he *knows* it isn't safe but wanted the item shipped immediately.
I resisted sending it until the cheque had been in my account a few days and have just struggled to the post office with this thing. When I get there the Post office computer won't accept the address as it is wrong. Apparently it is quite close so it should get there, but if I risk it I could lose my insurance as I am using an address that does not tally with the data base.
I've had to bring the parcel all the way home and re address it and now have to take it all the way back again. I thought it better that I risk delaying the parcel a few hours rather than risk sending an expensive item not covered by insurance.
I've written to the buyer and suggested he changes his address on ebay in case this causes him problems in the future.
I would have thought making sure your address was completely right on ebay was a fairly high priority but it might account for the reason so many buyers claim not to have received parcels!

Thats pants soolin! It would be nice if you could claim extra money cos he is a muppet!! Its a struggle for me to get things to the postoffice at times, with 2 babies and a local post office full of people I would have been really cross if that was me!! Good idea biblejohn but I doubt I'd bother - you kind of just assume people want to recieve their good ey!

ARGGGGHH indeed. I sent a large package 14 days ago by standard parcels but the address of the buyer was a farm which has no house number. When you send by standard parcels they log the Postcode/House number on the PO computer.
Anyway, the parcel has - lo and behold - not been received  and now as I check the proof of posting to claim against ParcelForce I notice the postcode that the stupid bint at the PostOffice entered is different from the actual shipping address with house number 31 tacked on to it. GRrrrrrrr. She obviously couldn't figure out how to enter a postcode without a valid housenumber so she just made one up on the spot.
It's really put me up the creek, and I've already got a Buyer complaint against me on PayPal (STILL unresolved after 42 days) so I've really got little choice but to refund the buyers money.
On that note, when refunding for unreceived goods should the Postage fee be refunded too? I didn't this time, although I suppose I may be forced to if the buyer insists - since I have no bloomin' valid postage receipt.
Bye bye RoyalMail! Hello DHL parcel2go.

Goodness cosmokramer2004 what a nasty position to be in.
I've hurriedly checked my post office receipt to make sure that is is correct and it is, but like you I wouldn't normally check receipts from the post office as I just expect them to know what they are doing.
However, if that is the address that shows in the post office data base (it must be as they accepted it) then you are insured, so bung in a claim. That's the only thing about Royal Mail parcels they are trackable by the Royal Mail but not to point of delivery like recorded or special delivery. The amount paid includes insurance of whatever you told them it was worth so make the Royal mail pay for their mistake.

i sent my sister a parcel before xmas and the post office person told me the address didnt exist. Well Ive been there so I know it does!0

My father in law was told by the Post Office a couple of weeks ago when he tried to send me a parcel that my business address doesn't exist. Hhhmmm. It's a massive building that's been there at least 100 years if not more, yet it doesn't exist.
Royal Mail must have changed their minds though and decided that it did exist, as I did eventually get my parcel.

Yeah I'll put a claim in, but no idea what to put down as the address, since the receipt is for a different Postcode to the actual address. It's a real pain. The girls happy enough with the refund though so neg avoided, but still £40 down
