Keycom?

Options
Anybody using keycom?

I know our university (Aston) is using them, and their service has been pretty appauling. Needless to say it is now "free" (providing they dont bill me at the end of the month), but the service is slow, frequently disconnects and is generally not acceptable.

If anybody is using linux or unix or a mac or windows with cgywin, then I have made a little script which will reconnect your computer to the internet. It works pretty well, stops msn messenger etc from dying. If you want it, the let me know.

For the money saving tip: Make a fuss, complain, send them constant emails! That worked for us. They offered us the 4 weeks starting 14/2 for "free", but I have already paid until 28/2 so I hope their billing department is more competent than their support.

You should kick up a massive fuss. Any phone network which cannot connect you to the proper emergency services (not the p*sspoor ones they have on campus) is highly illegal.
  • Wow, I thought this thread had died.

We do have an internal number you can call for security. In fact, all rooms on the lakeside residences have their own 4 digit internal room number (great fun for when you've just got back from the pub!).

Keycom have got better, but I have published an article in our campus newspaper "The Aston Times", so perhaps we will get refunds for the lack of service we had from Dec-Now (we got one month free so far). It was free up until December, but still damned awful - disconnected every 2 hours, but I wrote a script to reconnect automatically!

I object to Keycom trying their crappy service out on us and I also object to them dismissing my advice as "untrue" then a couple of weeks later releasing an update email to all account holders stating EXACTLY what I had told them and how to remedy it. I was hoping to get a job with them, but after I told them what I thought of their unsecure (unencrypted) credit card sign-up form, I dont think they wanted me :D
