Winter Tyres & Insurance

That's why i chose GM steel wheels which are an identical match to my spare tyre steel rim

Is that spare a "space saver" type ?
If it is, then you will find that there are substancially reduced speed restrictions applied to space savers and also maximum travel distances applied too.
If the overal diameter of the rim / tyre combination is substancially different to the standard alloy wheel / tyre, then you may find that the vehicle manufacturer would not approve of the wheel / tyre fitment and hence neither would any insurance company. You can check if the manufacturer approves your wheel rim / tyre specs by phoning a dealer and asking them.
Note, not all tyre bay fitters have been given training with regard to wheel / tyre regulations or vehicle manufacturer approvals
