how much would i see

The company i work for is cutting back left right and centre and the share price is half of what it was. Ive worked for them nearing 24 years and at the moment without OT and any Bonus im on £450 a week flat money.
I have a slight disabilty which has not caused any problems in the 24 years ive worked for them and they are fully aware of it. However im just getting a feeling that cutbacks are looming and i may well be singled out of my dept which there are 5 of and ive been there the longest. im just wondering if the worst did come to the worst what i would be looking at

Firstly - your disability. They can't lawfully make you redundant on the basis of that, obviously. Indeed if you are covered by the Equality Act then they need to make reasonable adjustments, but if as you say it has not caused you (or your employer) any problems in 24 years then I suspect it will have little impact on matters.

To calculate your statutory redundancy payment you need to enter your details into the redundancy calculator here. Your entitlement depends on your age. Weekly pay is currently capped at £400.

This is not strictly correct, the disability would have to be recognised and you officially classed as disabled, or your condition or impairment would have to fall in line with the DDA (Disability Discrimination Act), the issue with the DDA is that it is not based upon the actual condition but how it affects you in your day to day work, in effect this means although two people could have the same condition only one of them might be covered by the DDA based upon the roles they are employed to carry out.

In terms of what you might recieve, this is hard to know without understanding if your company offers an enhanced redundancy/severance package. Your best bet is just to ask the question at work.

Because the amount of redundancy pay is more for longer service (other things being equal - like age), then being there longer may actually protect you. If there are 5 people each of whom could do the tasks required, then it is more likely the company would want to cut back in the cheapest way - making redundant the person with the least service.

    Wrong.

The DDA no longer exists, having been repealed upon the enactment of the Equality Act in 2010. Hence the phrase 'if you are covered by the Equality Act', by which I mean 'disabled in the eyes of the law'.

Also note the word 'statutory' in my second paragraph - obviously if there is a bespoke payment structure we would not nkow what that was.

Sometimes the obvious is not necessary to spell out, but in your case it clearly is.

Except that that would almost certainly be unlawful and discriminatory.

They would need to select on a set of criteria which were reasonable and lawful. They might include length of service but they would be on dodgy ground if they selected solely on that basis.

Unlawful to act in the business interests of the company (keeping costs down)?

Of course, they could draw up other criteria which would intentionally produce the same result.
