How to stop my husbands credit rating?
My husband has asperger's syndrome and one of his cry's for help seems to be withdrawing cash on his credit card to his limit and wasting it all on slot machines.
I have been told I can apply to get his credit rating blocked/suspended so that he cant apply for anymore credit but am having trouble finding out how to do this.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
This issue is destroying our marriage!
Hope someone can help???

You may be looking at power of attorney or guardianship; I expect a lawyer will be along soon to give a reasoned opinion. Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

You won't be able to "stop his credit rating" as that means something completely different and I don't think anyone can stop the Credit Reference Agencies from providing credit ratings / info on any adults in the UK, but I suspect you mean you would like to try to prevent him from accessing and wasting all his money when his mental health is in a poor state.
Aspergers Syndrome itself is not a mental illness, it is a disorder related to personality development and is on the autistic spectrum - social functioning of people with Aspergers can at times of stress be very difficult and symptoms of mental illness can be more prevalent in people with the syndrome. Your first port of call would be to request a Mental Health assessment if your husband is very poorly - if he already has a mental health team involved you could contact his nurse or social worker, alternatively contact your GP and discuss your concerns about your husbands capacity to make these decisions at times when he is unwell. That should get the wheels in motion for a referral about his capacity to make decisions. Remember, people have the right to make stupid / senseless decisions, including wasting their money, so two psychiatrists with Section 12(2) approval, plus a social worker called an Approved Mental Health Professional, may proceed to a Mental Health Act Assessment if his mental health is very unstable and requiring treatment. Alternatively, they may decide that he does not lack capacity, even though his decisions are wasteful or seemingly silly. Aspergers as such does not mean someone lacks capacity to make decisions for themselves, but their reactions to stress and life events can be very disordered and extreme and at those times they may need medical treatment and may lack capacity at the time.
When your husband is well, he could also sign up to a Power of Attorney giving you or a nominee permission to take over management of his finances during periods of illness or instability.
First port of call if no mental health team are involved is your GP- please make an appointment and try to get your husband to accompany you. If he doesn't, the GP won't be able to discuss him with you, but you will be able to raise your concerns and the GP can then refer urgently. Its a difficult situation, good luck0 -
Gamblers anonymous might be able to help. His condition is the same as thousands of people all over the country, gambling is the root of all evil.

Just dropped in to say, I do feel for you and hope you get it sorted.
Gamcare is another gambling association you could contact.
You could even raise your concerns with the credit card company, even if it is by letter as they probably won't dicuss the account with you. Basically you letting them know of the issue, might be enough for them to stop the card.
If the card is with the bank, you could do the same with them.0 -
Ask the national autistic society for help. Get power of attorney.
