I know payday loans charge outrageous interest amounts, but how about someone like Provident? The have a personal credit section. Still steep interest, but you could borrow the amount you need over a year at around 270% interest as opposed to the 1700% or so most pay day loans companies charge. They consider people with poor credit ratings, as long as you have stable employment.

Rather than getting a loan, do you have anything you could pawn? Pawn shops can sometimes be good places to raise money, like Cash Converters and the like.

Failing either of these options, could you maybe live on baked beans for a month so, even if you could only save some of the amount you need, at least you wouldn't have to borrow as much as you would need to for the whole amount? I am not sure where you are based, but up here in Scotland places like the Salvation Army give out food parcels.

Would you consider buying just 6 months of road tax instead of a year?
  • nothing left to pawn or sell got rid of it when redutant. provident dont go over 500, already living on bread as i only earn peanuts and car tax is 110 for 6 months
  • Well yes there is that but it may show that you are genuine and really do need some support, and to add my spelling is also very bad!.
You just need to search online for MP and then find the one you want to approach, maybe your own local MP - search by postcode.
I know that is not a solution for you, but you may just help someone else :-)

If you have problems with money as you seem to, I think you need to post your SOA - I know i said this in my last post. If you earn so little money and want help you need to explain what you do in your "spare" time, if you have any and maybe what you could do in this time, who you live with, what you pay for and why you are in such a mess. I thought I had a worry with my situation, however I can see that you do need some support and people here can do this for you, as you have seen they have already given you lots of ideas, maybe not the right one yet but one will be allong soon...
  • I can quite understand your situation, quite often one is better off unemployed which is plain silly. I was unemployed up to a month ago and I am only slightly better off working and I'm lucky I can use public transport. If I needed to buy a car I would be better off staying at home on benefits (not that I would do it, rather be working).

The system needs an overhaul, there needs to be a better system to reward the unemployed who are actually looking for work as well as those who are employed.

If you post a SOA (Statement Of Affairs) from here we may be able to help you make savings.
  • Im sorry i dont think i have made my self clear. i get paid monthly and the last pay day was early nov, which i used to pay off the last installment of the payday loan i had, and the log book loan i had so every month now i gonna be at least 300 better off.
The problem is my car is old and battered if i was to pay 600 to get it taxed and mot`ed it would be silly as car is worth 250 at best, now tax and mot run out end of dec. if i allow tax to run out so will the mot and ill have to scrap it, which i will get 100 quid for it.
Car dealers offer you a 1000 for any car trade in, my problem is i need to raise about 1000 so i can trade mine in and get a car for around 2 grand thats gonna last a year till i can get chance to save but there is no where that can offer this help apart from payday loans and they want the money back the month after not in installments hope this makes things clearer and i thank you all for your comments
  • Although things seem bad at the moment, there's always a way out - the problem is finding it.

First things first though, please post a statement of affairs as this is the clearest way to lay out your financial situation. I haven't been registered long enough to post links so copy and paste this address, fill it in and then post the results; makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html

The car situation isn't too bad - you can pick up bargains all over the country for as little as £50. What you have to remember is that you're paying for the MOT and the tax and having had a quick look on autotrader, you can pick up a V reg Rover 416 for £100 - This comes with 11 months MOT and 6 months tax. This seems like a far better option than spending upwards of £500 on your current car.

Pay day loans in my opinion are evil... They should be considered an absolute last resort.

The SOA will make everything a lot clearer though - I'll post again once I've seen it.
    Total Unsecured Debt - Summer 2010 - £68244 / Summer 2011 - £57252 / Winter 2012 - £38495 / Winter 2013 - £21520 / Winter 2014 - £9342. / Summer 2015 - £0 - No Agreements, no payment plans, no settlements, no bankruptcy, just hard work.

^ That ^ is exactly what you should be looking at, it's a viable short term solution which fits your budget yes?

Sell your car and buy a cheaper one with a smaller engine so your car tax will be less. If you get one already taxed and MOT'd, even if it's only for a few months, it might well get you through. I know buses are an absolute pain, but if that's what's to be done to get you to work when you don't have a car, then you just have to grit your teeth and push through it. I've been there myself in the winter months and it's no fun, so I really do sympathise.

Do stay away from further log book/payday loans though.

I heartily recommend doing the SOA. It is very helpful to see how much money you need/have/spend.
