Refused New Look store card?

Hi! I'm a bit confused about a store card refusal, and was wondering if anyone had any advice on this.
I was doing some christmas shopping this week at New Look, and when I went to pay I was offered a 15% discount if I took out a store card. I figured aslong as I paid it off straight away, I might aswell take advantage of the discount.
Once I'd filled in the form they went to find out if I'd be accepted. Unfortunately, I wasn't. Apparently they're going to write to me to explain why, but I'm still a little concerned.
I'm 21 and at the moment I'm out of work due to illness (of course had to tick 'unemployed' on the form though). Obviously that means I'm in the under £10000 a year bracket, but I've had a credit card for the past few years with the same info and that's never been a problem. I'm always on top of my payments, have never been late/missed a payment. My credit limit is £750 and the most I've ever owed on there was about £400 - at the moment I owe about £60. Lived at the same address all my life, never had any credit problems atall.
I know I'm probably not ideal for lenders, but I thought as I have had a credit card for a few years, I'd be ok with a store card. I'm also concerned that being knocked back will affect my credit rating.
Any thoughts? Thanks!

https://www.newlookaccountcard.co.uk/pages/nl_start.asp may provide a clue
Before we get started we just need to check that you're eligible to apply. We will only be able to consider your application if:
You are aged 18 years or over
You have a good credit history with no previous bankruptcies, IVAs, Debt Relief Orders, recent CCJs or defaults
You are a permanent UK resident and have lived in the UK for the last 12 months (unless you are HM Forces Personnel)
You are not unemployed
You are not aware of any significant changes which may adversely affect your ability to continue making repayments in the future.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Ah, well there you go. Thanks for the info! It's a shame I didn't think to ask these things before applying .. but never mind!
Does being knocked back for credit like this damage your credit rating?0 -

All that will be seen on your crdit file - is that you were searched in relation to a credit agreement application.
Whilst its not good to have lots of searches close together, 1 search alone won't have an impact.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
