Family car for camping - advice pls

Options
Can anyone advise of any economical camping/kid friendly car as my Clio will only fit me and the OH and our camping basics in.

We hope to go camping when the weather picks up and want to get a new car in time so we can all jump in on a Friday evening and shoo off somewhere and chill – this is the plan anyway!!

Anyone got a car that they use for similiar?

  • Any idea of ideal budget? Do you have any favoured brands?

    Petrol or diesel preferred?

Does it need 3drs or 5drs?

Any 'must-have' items? (i.e. aircon, cd, electric driver seat, heated seats, satnav, manual or automatic? etc)

Lets start narrowing it down from this lot!

Well the cheaper the better :) I'm willing to spend up to £5000 but need something that will last. I quite like the shape of the Vauxhall Frontera but perhaps a bit big and not so eco friendly. Not bothered if petrol or diesel. Want 5 doors. And only must have would be manual. Aircon would be good too.

We use a Renault Laguna estate for camping. Just about fits all the gear in plus we have a tow bar as sometimes we borrow a trailer if we take an extra child - for his gear not him!

Unfortunately we've had nothing but trouble with the car so I wouldnt recommend it based on that.
