Tenants left outstanding bill
Hi all,
I had tenants for last 1year and were using Pay as you go meter for electricity and they havent paid the bills.Due to non-payment the electricity supply has been terminated.They have moved out last week.I want to know that how can be my electricity supply restored and where will I find out that how much is the outstanding payment as its a PAYG meter.Also who will have to bear the cost as I need to get on with the damage which my tenants have done and cant get the repair work started without electricity.

Sorry but cannot quite understand how they have left outstanding bills, correct me if I am wrong but I thought the the whole ideal is that with a Pay As You Go Meter you pay for your usage in advance.0

Me too - last time I had a meter it would have a £5 emergency 'overdraft', then cut off automatically if I didn't top up from there.

Perhaps they have just used up the emergency portion? That should only cost you about a fiver to get it back on surely?0 -
Have you considered the tenants were using a dodgy key for the meter???

If the tenants used one of these, the energy company have not been paid a penny, thus the reason of unpaid usage,Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -
Unless you signed a contract with the supplier to accept responsibility for the bills, it has nothing to do with you.
Contact the supplier, notify them that you have taken possession of the property and take out a contract with them after which they will put a meter back in; end of story.0 -
It sounds like it has run out of credit, with rented propertys the l/lord is liable unless then can prove it was rented out via a tenancy under the deemed contract terms. Contact the supplier with your details and home address they will do a meter reset.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

I am not exactly sure what the OP is saying. Is it that there was a prepayment meter throughout? In which case the debt could be due to a build up of standing charge, but this won't be a vast amount unless they moved out sometime ago. If this is the case there will be no electricity because there is in effect a negative balance on the meter.
Or does the OP mean that they had a prepayment meter fitted because there was a debt they had run up? Or does the OP mean the supply has been disconnected?
I cannot see why the supply would have been disconnected as usually a supplier would fit a prepayment meter as an alternative to disconnection. However the OP needs to contact the supplier as in either scenario if they put money on the meter it will swallow all or part of it to go towards the debt.
