Ladies suits

  • I've had incredible luck on ebay so I have several really lovely suits from Next and M&S bought for less than £30 each. One particularly special one from Planet was found in a charity shop in a much posher area than where I live for £15: I just needed to have the trousers shortened.

If you're not pushed for time I would definitely suggest you have a peek on ebay.

Unfortunately I was pushed for time (it's for an interview tomorrow, eek!) but I popped into town earlier and found a really nice suit from Next - was £68 which I suppose is mid-priced for a suit although it felt like a LOT of money to me!! It was one of the cheaper suits in Next, lots are more like £80-£100 but felt very well made, nice material and fit well. Unfortunately there's no sale on at Next right now and there's no outlet store in my city :( I don't often wear suits to work but it's nice to have a good one I feel comfortable in for the occasions that I will need to look smarter.

Thanks for all the advice and comments ladies, much appreciated! I'll definitely look on ebay in future and try and be more prepared about it!

  • A woman should invest on a ladies dress suits as part of their wardrobe. This is one of the best decisions a woman can make. These clothes can definitely add power to any wardrobe. This is the best thing to wear in job interviews, unexpected meetings and sudden event that might come your way. No woman can getaway without owning a dress suit. Your closet should be equipped with the basics and ladies suits is one of them.

I totally agree, but as a woman on a budget, spending a big whack of change in one go on a suit is a scary decision! I definitely think it was worth going for a more expensive and better suit rather than a nasty shiny scratchy thing that I feel uncomfortable in though.

I don't feel confident at all :rotfl: but at least my suit will impress even if I don't :D

I have a cupboard full of suits which I rarely wear these days! "Power" dressing really is very sad, you can look smart without getting suited, and I see so many women in really horrible suits that rightly or wrongly, I do make a negative judgement about them! A well-cut and accessorised dress is much better.

The problem with suits is that cheap ones really do look cheap because of nasty material and poor cuts. I also think that a suit only looks nice for a few wears, before going off them! Some women seem to think that any jacket makes them look smart, most make them look tasteless.

If you're heart is set on a suit, I'd recommend Planet, Jigaw or M&S. Matalan suits look plain nasty.

I agree about the Planet suits but with the OP's budget I think they are a little out range.

Still worth checking out Planet through - they do have a sale rale quite a lot of the time nowadays. I bought a classic black jacket from them fairly recently which was reduced to £40.

I agree that many cheap suits look nasty, part of the problem is that so many woman wear ones that don't actually fit them!

I struggle to get dresses that are long enough for work though at the moment. An inch or two above the knee is OK but can't get away with more than that. I have a couple from Jaegar that I wear regularly -VfM4meplse can I ask where you get yours from?

M&S used to be good - I had a lovely fine wool mix suit from there years ago, but recently I have found them to be poor quality and frumpy. Planet is great if you can afford it, but the matalan stuff I have bought recently is a long way from nasty!! It actually look and feels very good quality, and fits perfectly. I have a Betty Jackson jacket, which fits beautifully but is not wearing well, the matalan stuff is doing far better!
