Starting work on friday , now many things running through my head.

Hi everyone , I have finally been offered a job with a local company . I will be starting Friday , on a 3 week work trial. If all goes well I will be starting properly on the 3rd of January.

I currently live with my girlfriend and 2 children , and i've got a couple of questions if anyone could help me out please.

1) We have had budgeting loans from the social , and we get money stopped each fortnight to pay them back . We currently owe about £600 in total . I realize I will still need to pay the money back but how does it work ? . Will they stop an agreeable amount of money each week ? . Surely they wont expect payment in full.

2) When I start properly on the 3rd of January , if I have to work a week in hand . How will I pay the bills rent etc ? is there any help available..

thanks for your time and any help

Congrats on getting a job! :) As for the budgeting loans, you need to contact DWP and explain your situation, I'm sure they will allow you to come to some arrangement to pay your loan off in instalments. If it's social housing, have a word with the council re rent/council tax, or your LL in private housing. Maybe they will allow you to defer the rent until you get a "proper" wage? If all else fails, do you have family you could loan the rent money off for a week or two?

Depending on which benefits you are currently claiming, the length of time you have been claiming and what wage you will receive for hours worked, you may be entitled to continue claiming full housing benefit and council tax benefit for up to 4 weeks after starting employment.
