I have DVD in my pc which plays DVD-R fine.

However, my dvd player which is an acoustic solutions 257 doesnt play it.

I dont know much about dvd's etc - can I do anything to convert it so I can watch it?

Cheers

There are two formats of dvd's. There is dvd-r and dvd+r.

if you have a pc with 2 disk drives you can do it.

one must be a dvd player and the other must be dvd recorder.

with a peice of dvd writing software you need to do a direct disk copy.

you will need some blank dvd+r's.

then copy the dvd that wont work onto the dvd+r dvd.

    this should then work :)

    a) you don't need 2 drives in your PC
    b) theres no guarantee that the DVD+R will work in the AS DVD player
    c) there's no guarantee that what is on the DVD-R is actually a proper DVD format so writing it to DVD+R isn't going to help until it's checked
    d) it might just be the make of DVD-R is at fault

what files/folders can you see on teh DVD-R when viewing it via explorer on the PC

    Hi Woby_tide

The file shows up as Video_TS VOB File (there is also a Video_TS.BUP file)

    Cheers for your help

  • Simple answer - try the DVD-R in a friend's player. Ideally a cheapie one.

In my experience, DVD-R are generally more compatible with players than +R so I would hold off on the +R burning until you have simply tried your -R disc in another player.

I've also found that the more fancy the DVD player, the less compatible it is with burned discs rather than professionally pressed discs

if it is literally just a coupe of files on the disc with no folders then a DVD player won't recognise it, but the PC will play the file as you found out. A normal DVD player needs a couple of folders AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS containing the DVD files to be able to play the DVD. You might get away just burning a new disc with your two files dropped into the VIDEO_TS folder. Otherwsie use the files through some DVD creating software Nero/DVD Styler or something and see what comes out the other side
