I've given up on the hire a tumble dryer idea as I realised today that I can't actually lift a bag of washing.
So I called a few laundrettes in the area to enquire about service washes. They are all so inflexible with timings etc that it just wont work (basically will collect any time before 12.30 not specified when exactly or even a time frame, deliver between 12.30 and 4.30 traffic permitting the next day, no further time frame etc.).
So I called one that's further away and on their website says same day service, turns out they dont do a same day service
So I want to post an ad for a laundry person (what word should I use?) to collect my laundry after 6 on a Tuesday and deliver any time on a Wednesday in my area. Where's the best place to do this?

It might be worth trying dry cleaners in your area. The 2 in my immediate area offer washing services by the load and includes ironing, one has a same day service and the other has a 24 hour turnaround.
Also, do you have any local booklets sent to you? For example, we get "Kempston Calling" which includes some local news and tidbits plus loads of advertisements for businesses and services offered in the area. A local newspaper may also have this.
I hope that helps and good luck finding something.

I hope this doesn't sound insensitive, but are there any members of your family that could help? If I thought someone in my family was struggling I'd love to help them out
but wouldn't want to ask for fear of them being independent and making them feel like a burden

Have you tried searching for laundry services in your area? I know there are a couple round here that pick up and drop off. Don't know what it costs though.
You can't lift a bag of washing? Could you lift 1/4 of a bag and do it slowly 4 times?
Have you a friend who could move things around inside for you now and again?
Anyway, how are you getting on?Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Nobody's really close enough to me gilly. My sisters are out Falkirk way and my dad is sick just now (long term man problems) so my mums washing machine never stops as it is.0

Could local social services offer a (possibly paid for) service to help with this?
Are there any local charities that offer odd job services - I know there are down here in the south - they may be able to help out given your current limitations.
Any forces links? If so, SSAFA or British Legion might be able to help.
Failing all of that, how about the cleaning / maid type services - they may be able to tailor something to meet your needs.
Sorry if you've already thought of all of these and I've just made you shout "Ahhhhhhhhhh" at the screen.:hello:0 -
Lotus eater, that would cost me a fortune in electric and I'd struggle with them when they're wet anyway.
I do have a flat mate but he's an unrelated male and were not that close, getting him to help with laundry would be too much.0 -
That's a shame.
Hope your dad and you both feel better soon.
I wouldn't want my male flatmate washing my smalls either

Tbh asking a flatmate to do something for you so small as help carry your washing, is such a small thing, I wouldn't have the slightest problem helping, or asking someone.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

OP, I'm guessing by your name, you're in Glasgow? If so, "The Iron Lady" provide this service, they have a shop on Paisley Road West, and one @ St Georges Cross. They collect / deliver.
