I have moved 3 times and I always book a removal company on the day I exchange contracts. I have always found it is money well spent but I am a slightly built single female so am grateful for the extra muscle ;) I could never do it on my own. They usually provide boxes beforehand (or you can buy your own) and then I start packing. Everything is packed by removal date barring things like the bedding from the night before, cereal bowl, tea cup, kettle etc. I also dismantle the beds on moving date morning and take down the curtains (if I'm bringing them with me). It will take far longer to pack than you think!!

Removal van usually arrives at 8am and they start packing up. Last time I moved I got the phone call from the solicitor at about 11.30am to say the money had gone through. I took the keys myself to the new owner as he was a property developer working down the road and drove to my new house. My seller was still emptying the house (they were moving themselves) so I had to wait a bit but it was no bother.

Just remember it is only one day, it can be a little stressful but more than anything else it's really exciting. I love moving :D
It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :j
    Happiness is not a destination - it's a journey :)
  • I have found the following independent site a good guide to moving. It includes what you should be doing in the run-up to the move and what to consider:

    http://www.helpiammoving.com/moving_house/home.php

Have a look at the Checklists pages for good advice.

    Hope this helps
  • My soliciter charged the person I bought from interest and fees because they didnt get out of *MY* house at midday, they were still there at 6pm.
They tried to move 20 miles away in a transit connect sized van.

Its easy, at midday, or whatever time you choose, your old house ceases to be your old house, and becomes their house, by this point, everything you own should be out of that house, preferably, in a van.
Also, at Midday, your new home, ceases to be the old owners, and all of their stuff should be out, you drive in your van to your new home, and unpack your stuff into your wonderful new home.

Everyone should empty their house at the same time.
Everyone should travel at the same time
Everyone should arrive at the same time

And there will be no problems.
Dont be "that guy" who want to clear the box room tomorrow and hope you dont have to deal with him either.
