Hotpoint - How rude are your reps?
Just phoned up to active extended 5yr parts guarantee. Only to be told about paying 12x£5 to pay for labour and a call out, which would be £105, so you are expecting a worse than 50/50 that the fridge will fail. built-in fridge HS2331L. After being told the info, I was only ask a question when I pointed out the I was waiting to be ask a question not told facts and give silence. Then all he wanted to do was get off the phone as he failed to make a sale, no info on what to do if I need to invoke the guarantee.
Very disappointed as only bought hotpoint as it is a brand, my washing machine has done great. But you reps are very poor.
Why do companies think they can scare people into buy additional insurance that in all likelyhood will be be used!

Bit confused by what you mean here.
Did you ring up to register for the extended warranty and were told you had to pay £105 a year?
Only certain companies who sell hotpoint give the extended warranty out. Where did you buy from.
A lot of manufacturers now are offering extended warranties to people who buy from showrooms, but not for sales off the internet. They may have got mixed up and thought you were asking to buy an extended warranty and gave you the prices.
It is down to differentiating between a showroom sale, who have paid for displays and have the upkeep of running a shop, compared to an internet sale which is a guy sitting in his spare bedroom and getting everyone else to do the hard work and who makes a tenner on a sale. Manufacturers like displays in shops and find sales for their products are better when people can see them, so gve that extra bit more for showroom sales0 -

I didn't have that problem. I had to replace my Hotpoint fridge freezer and got the 5 year parts guarantee without any problem. I wasn't pressured to buy an extended guarantee as well and would not have done so.0 -
I wasn't pressed into it when I called either. But as my fridge freezer is coming up for a year old they sent me a call out and labour warranty for £30 a year. Seeing as I'm facing redundancy I took it out.0

Yes that was my basic complaint, it is 12 month warranty which is standard appliance should last so that is not a surprise as it has to be 'fit for purpose' the free bit is the 5years of parts warranty, that is the extended bit.
The fridge only cost £200, their quote of a £105 for a call out is on the high side as an independent I would guess is £60.
My point was that £60, is over 50% on a call out of £105 so that would make the stats that they expect 1 in every 2 policies to call them out in the 1-5year period, there is not to much to go wrong with a fridge compared to a diswasher or washing machine. I prefer to go for the self insurance of these things and accept things wear out, it is better to buy a new fridge that repair a 7 year old fridge for £100+ pounds.
And yes the was a defiant salesman's silence with the expectation that it needed to be filled.
All the best

What does this even mean? I've re-read the OP five times and still don't know what this bit means. Did OP ring up to be "told facts and given silence?" You can't have both facts and silence. What was the one question OP wanted to ask (or be asked?).0 -
I don't get it either ! Did you want the warranty ? If not why not just say so and say goodbye ?0

I have cover for my hotpoint washer, which has so far needed a new motor, new heating element, new bearings and a new door lock and its three years old :O I have a frostfree hotpoint freezer which is constantly frozen solid and you have to chip the top drawer open ( doesn't matter how low you have the temp) a fridge, again hotpoint which has water running out of it every time its opened and a dryer which is fine. All my appliances are three years old and apart from the dryer have been rubbish from the start so won't be buying hotpoint again0

Think you have been unlucky. I have had a hotpoint washing machine which lasted 12 years and a fridge freezer which lasted at least 12 years (passed on to someone else on Freecycle). Neither ever needed repair. My latest fridge freezer only managed 5.5 years so not so good. All worked well throughout their lives.0 -
OP, I'm sorry but you're posts hardly make any sense.
Are you saying that you have a free 5 year parts warranty, and they tried to sell you the cost of the labour at a reduced price is you paid 12 x £5?0
