Can I return it?

I bought a T-Shirt from an official merchanising company for a famous band just over 2 weeks ago, its been hardly worn but washed twice and has a hole in the armpit. I'm a bit annoyed because I've only had it a few weeks and it cost me £25, I'm a student so that's a lot of money to me. I didn't get a receipt from the retailer as I paid cash, only paying by card got a receipt from the chip and pin machine.

Do I have ground to get an exchange?

Your transaction receipt might suffice. It will have the company name and the right amount I assume even if it doesn't list what the item was. Arguing that clothes are poor quality and have disintegrated in the wash can prove difficult - companies will fob you off with excuses about it being the way you washed it, or a fault with your machine.

    You can but try.

I don't have a receipt, because I paid cash. Only people who paid by card got a receipt.
I've emailed the merchandisers to see if they'll exchange it. It's not on really is it! Companies should give out a receipt really, whether its cash or not. I've not got my hopes up I'm pretty sure they'll try to fob me off!

Is the hole along the seam or in the fabric ?

Sorry, that's what I assumed first, but I re-read your post and struggled with the 'only paying by card...' sentence and changed my mind.

Your comment about receipts is interesting. AFAIK, a receipt is not a legal obligation but must be supplied if the customer asks for one. Did you ask for one? (This might apply to VAT items only but I assume your t-shirt had VAT, i.e. was not a child size).

As an aside; twenty-five pounds for a T-shirt!!!!!

Are you still living in the 60's, £25 for a t-shirt is nothing these days.

I went to Asda at the weekend and bought four T-shirts for eight pounds.

Indeed they do, but I am not interested in entering any fashion show any time soon.
