    Hi

kids are home due to strike - if I was in work I would be crossing the picket line so I could get paid! public sector workers dont love their jobs they do it for leave and pensions (in my experience) thats why all my DD's teachers are miserable :) EDIT sorry Welshwoofer - I am not saying your miserable and I understand if you have been paying your pension for yrs

I love my job and so do many of my colleagues - teaching certainly isn't something you do for the money - I earn about £25k and work 6 days a week and most evenings for a couple of hours. Its a long hard slog made better by the kids most of the time.

The thing that infuriates me is that a lot of people treat teachers and schools like free babysitters - I'm not a babysitter, I am a highly educated and committed educator trying to do the best for your children.

Right, I'm off my high horse now...

So first proper day of being a DFW.
    So far I've:
    • Arranged a second bank account for my £200 a month for the Frugal Living Challenge so I can keep track of my money better
    • Opened an e-savings account for the Virtual Pot Challenge
    • Gathered some old tubs for the Sealed Pot Challenge in 2012
    • Made a spreadsheet to keep track of next year's income/outgoings to see where I can be cutting down money
    • Did a meal plan & food shop. Bought value brands... Saved £20 on my weekly food shop!! Think the £10 I spent today combined with what I already had in the freezer/cupboards will last two wereks
    • Paid my dear parents back the cash I owed them :A
Very productive day. Off now to sign up for a few survey sites, check the freebie list and enter a few competitions. (hey, someone's gotta win so might well be me!!)

Hi WW I dont dislike teachers - I teach 5 classes a week myself, just my DD's teachers are miserable. I work in LA and you find a lot of unmotivated - very highly paid (men) people who get through the day reading the paper and booking holidays on the phone or skiving in Starbucks or talking about rugby just waiting for their retirement

    Sorry

Natlie - apologies if it sounded like my rant was directed at you, it wasn't honestly!

No hard feelings - I agree that there are some teachers that are disillusioned and lazy but the vast majority are hard working and really care about the results the children acheive.

I'm off for a lie down in a darkened room!
