husband been working on short term contract (six weeks) but had a heart attack at the weekend and currently in hospital. He was made redundant four years ago and is also in receipt of his work pension of £7000 per year. I work full time and we have a dependent child. Does anyone know if husband would be entitled to any sick pay because he was in work and is now too ill to work. Have never claimed before - we usually just manage on his pension and my pay. Dont know where to start.

It must be quite scary, I hope he's recovering well.
If he's been earning an average of £102 a week he should be entitled to Statutory Sick Pay from the 4th day of sickness.

If he's not eligible for SSP then his employer must give him a SSP1 form which he can then use to claim Employment Support Allowance. He won't receive Income Based ESA because you work full time but may get Contributions Based depending on whether he paid full National Insurance Contributions in the relevant tax years. I'm not sure how his pension would affect ESA payments.

In terms of other possible benefits if you put your household details into one of the benefits calculators you'll get an idea of what else, if anything, you can claim.
